She was Vice-President for International Affairs and Vice-President for Studies and Academic Life (1995- 2002). She coordinated numerous International Programmes with China, India, Japan, Thailand, United the States of America, South America, European Countries, and others. She was nominated President of the “Maison Universitaire France-Japon” (2003-2007), located in Strasbourg, the only Institution created by the Ministry of Education for developing links between all Japanese Universities and all French Universities. Her distinctions are: “Officier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques” and “Chevalier dans l’Ordre de la Légion d’Honneur .“ Her teaching was mainly devoted to Private International Law, so are her main publications. (München) As Research Associate at the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition and Tax Law and Coordinator of the International Max Planck Research School for Competition and Innovation (IMPRS-CI) Andrea Wechsler specializes on IP law and policy with special focus on Asian countries. Prior to her position at the MPI Andrea Wechsler worked for WIPO, the European Court of Justice and in management consulting (McKinsey & Company Inc.). She holds law degrees and diplomas from the University of Oxford, Beijing University, Columbia University, and the Ludwig Maximilians University. Andrea Wechsler is the author of numerous papers on intellectual property protection, intellectual property protection in Asia and China, and the economic analysis of intellectual property law. She also lectures on a series of topics in relation to intellectual property law during conferences, seminars and courses. Contact: andrea.wechsler@ip.mpg.de Professional Training http://www.cesl.edu.cn - 5 - Speakers Thierry Debled Thierry Debled is managing the International branch of the Intellectual Property Corporate Department of the VESUVIUS group of Companies (ceramic materials for industrial use). Before joining VESUVIUS, he studied Chemistry at the Université Libre de Bruxelles and worked as patent agent for various companies since 1990 (GLAVERBEL, UCB). Thierry has now about 20 years of experience in Intellectual property. He is registered as qualified patent attorney with the Belgian and European Patent Offices. Within VESUVIUS, Thierry manages a team of experts involved in preparing, obtaining and enforcing Intellectual Property rights. He dedicates a significant part of its time counselling the management of the firm about various issues in relation to Intellectual property. Besides these activities, Thierry is also active in teaching patent law; he lectures patent law in several Belgian and European Universities (Université Libre de Bruxelles, Université Catholique de Louvain and Université de Strasbourg). He is the coordinator of a unique pan-European training program for patent attorneys (training classes organized in 34 cities all over Europe). He is also lecturing on a series of topics in relation with Intellectual Property during conferences, seminars and courses on behalf of several International Organizations. Moreover, Thierry is a member of the Committee for the qualification of Belgian patent attorneys, the Disciplinary Committee of the epi (Institute of the European Patent attorneys) and the Committee of experts in charge of drafting the revised Belgian patent act. Hammel holds a Professorship at the Nanjing Normal University (NNU) and is Head of the Chinese-German IP Law Institute of the Law Faculty at NNU. Besides teaching at the Law Faculty at NNU, he lectures on IP Law at the TFH Wildau/Germany in the Telematics Faculty and gives as an expert training courses on IP issues for IP officials and IP lawyers in China. Furthermore, Frank A. Hammel practices as a qualified IP Lawyer with Knauthe Attorneys, Notaries and Tax Consultants in Berlin/Germany and works as an arbitrator in Chinese-German IP matters. As head of the practice group IP he advices internationally in the area of competition and antitrust law, intellectual property and copyright law as well as media. Frank A. Hammel publishes widely on various legal issues in the IP area and has recently published a Guideline on IP issues on Trade Fairs for German and Chinese Exhibitors. Last but not least, he works as expert for the Judicature Appraisal Center for Intellectual Property in Beijing and as a researcher for the IP Law Center of the China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing. As vice-director of the Masters Intellectual Property Law and Knowledge Management (LLM/MSc) at Maastricht University (www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/law) he is involved in the management and teaching of the masters in general, and the MSc-track in particular. Cees holds a PhD in physics from Leiden University (NL). Cees joined Philips Electronics in 1982, first as a researcher and later on as a patent engineer. He qualified as a Dutch patent attorney and as a European Patent Attorney; he specializes in patent matters in the fields of physics, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. From 2001-2009 Cees was partner in DeltaPatents (www.deltapatents.com) based in Eindhoven (NL). Cees is an expert and senior teacher in European Patent Law (EPC, PCT and PC) specialising in procedural patent law. He is a CEIPI-tutor and co-speaker at the “Guide to the Formal Requirements of the European Patent System for Administrative Staff in the Patent Profession” (“Management Forum”, London). Cees Mulder is the author of the book “The Cross-Referenced Patent Cooperation Treaty” (published yearly; www.helze.com). Contact: cees.mulder@helze.com Carolina Pina Sánchez, Partner, Garrigues, Madrid With law degrees from the University of Alicante and from London Guildhall University, Carolina Pina Sánchez is a partner at Garrigues and certified Spanish Intellectual Property Agent and Partly Qualified British Trade Mark Agent. During her three-year stay in London, from 1993-1996, she worked at Marks & Clerk and Bird & Bird specializing in Intellectual Property Law both in contentious and noncontentious matters. Carolina Pina Sánchez is a member of the Editorial Board of the Thomson Aranzadi Sports and Entertainment Law Review and a lecturer in the following courses: Masters in Intellectual Property at Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, MBA in Sports Management at Universidad Europea de Madrid, Masters in Sports Journalism at Universidad Europea de Madrid. She has published extensively in Spanish and international publications and has been a speaker at various conferences both on IP matters in general and IP arbitrations in particular. She has been appointed as recommended lawyer in Intellectual Property Law, amongst other publications, by Chambers Global, Chambers Europe, Legal 500 and PLC Global Handbooks. She is also member of the panel list of WIPO Arbitration & Mediation Center. (Edinburgh), Lawyer, Lovells LLP, Munich As a lawyer at Lovells LLP, Tihani Prüfer-Kruse specializes on IP law with a focus on trademark and patent law. Prior to working for Lovells LLP, Tihani Prüfer-Kruse was a scholarship holder and PhD student at the MPI specialising in trademark law and policy. She also worked as a tutor at the Munich Intellectual Property Law Centre. As a trainee, she worked for the OHIM and for specialized trademark chambers of the Bremen District Court and the Hamburg Court of Appeal. She studied at the Universities of Freiburg, Berlin (Humboldt University) and Edinburgh where she focused on innovation and technology law. Tihani Prüfer-Kruse is the author of numerous papers on intellectual property protection, especially trademark protection. Contact: tihani.pruefer-kruse@lovells.com Prof. Anselm Kamperman Sanders Anselm Kamperman Sanders is Professor of International and European Intellectual Property Law at Maastricht University, The Netherlands. Anselm holds a PhD from Queen Mary, University of London, where he worked as a Marie Curie fellow. He is the director of the Masters Intellectual Property Law and Knowledge Management (LLM/MSc) at Maastricht University, as well as the incoming director of the Institute for Globalisation and International Regulation <www.igir.org>. He teaches extensively on IP issues in China, most notably at the IEEM Intellectual Property Law School and annual Intellectual Property Seminar in Macao, China, of which he is the academic co-director. He co-edits (with Christopher Heath) the book series on International Intellectual Property associated with this annual event, which in June 2009 celebrates its 10th anniversary. Other publications concern competition law - the protection of intellectual and industrial creativity and intellectual property law in international trade.
