    mr. dong jianquan believed that as for this acquisition action of ebay, besides more consolidating its leading position of c2c in on-line e-commerce in the industry and establishing a new paradigm of on-line e-transaction real time voice communications; more importantly, with the help of this globally most successful network telephone provider of skype, it will challenge traditional telecoms companies with new technology and service philosophy, entering the telecoms market of tremendous benefit potentials. the intention of ebay is obvious, which adopts the most direct mode to nibble away the traditional telephone voice domain of a long history, striving to get its share in such industry and consequently placing the industry under its control.

   mr. dong jianquan presented that network telephone software developed and sold by niklas zennstrom and janus friis being the creators of skype, a network telephone company has already enabled people to freely communicate with skype software users of any other places in the world b using regular computers with voice quality and easy-to-use having reached unprecedented level. in the condition of sufficient network bandwidth, through the use of its excellent voice encoding and algorithm technology, jus taking up a bandwidth of 6k, its call quality can achieve the level of 64k regular long distance calls. somebody is joking that the occurrence of this system and associated software would scare telecoms companies all over the world into cold sweats!

   the combination of ebay and skype is a perfect match. mr. dong said that from the view of ebay, through setting up the button that controls “instant communications software” of skype to the webpage over the internet, b buyer just needs to click on the button before he or she can talk with a seller, dealing with second-hand cars, apartments or other things, which has simplified e-commerce applications; on the other, from the view of skype, its merger with ebay has strengthened connection with its on-line payment system paypal, when a skype user places a call from computer to regular telephone (making skypeout calls), or from regular telephone to computer (making skypein calls), it will be involved with prepaid issue, in such cases, skype users can settle their ills through paypal using their credit cards.

   mr. dong pointed out that the most principal feature of this merger is that skype will exit independently irrespective of acting as a brand or an enterprise, and ebay stated to allow skype to become the largest and best platform in the world among all new communications modes.

   this is a piece of good news for consumers and those developers who specialize in network telephone technology.

   can long distance call be really free? our reporter has put forward this issue mostly concerned about by users.
