we are seeking the following talented candidates for one of our clients, a well-known international law firm, reputable for its intellectual property work.

the firm handles multinational corporate clients and conducts most of its work in beijing, shanghai and other large city courts. the firm is a mixture of some top ip foreign and local lawyers and there is a lot of exposure to lawyers outside of china. the quality of the work has led to the fast expansion of the operations globally and offers their lawyers fast track promotion to partnership.

functional title       -       senior patent litigator

main objectives and tasks

-          lead litigation cases involving patent disputes, as well as trademark and unfair competition. (70% patent litigation. the remainder of the time will be spent on trademark litigation and other litigation matters.)

-          handle administrative complaints, especially those involving trademark and unfair competition (i.e. before the aic).

candidate specifications

education

-          registered chinese lawyer, with practicing certificate

-          patent agent’s certificate

language / ethnicity

-          local chinese

-          native mandarin; english, not required but an advantage

personality attributes and experience

-          at least 6 years china post qualification experience (pqe) handling complex enforcement cases for international clients.

-          have a good success rate and awards of damages track record.

-          representing the plaintiff preferred.  

-          capable of lobbying.

-          essentially a “barrister” i.e. not client facing, but court facing only.

-          willing to handle less attractive administrative enforcement matters if necessary.

-          able to work with minimal supervision, but must be a good team player and accepting of the firm’s culture i.e. more relaxed than usual law firms, as emphasis is on the team working closely together.
