the ifpma asian regional conference addresses the growing need to create a culture of innovation for pharmaceuticals and biotechnology in asia by harnessing the national and regional expertise of key global and regional players from governments, research and business. the conference addresses salient intellectual property and product development issues in the dynamic asian region. its varied program covers cross-cutting issues such as:

- the prerequisites for promoting sustainable r&d in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology,

- the role of civil society and patient groups in mobilising support for cutting-edge innovation,

- the critical role of intellectual property in vaccine development,
- of the importance of data exclusivity for innovation,
- the sustainable use of genetic resources, and
- how to move from a culture of copying to a culture of value-added innovation in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
